Scór na nÓg 2012

There were celebrations in Carrandine recently following Aoife Begley’s outstanding success in the County Scór na nÓg final in the recitation category. Following her victory at East Mayo level, Aoife went forward to the County Final in Breaffy. Aoife put on one of her finest performances to date in front of a packed auditorium and after a tense wait as the judges deliberated, she was announced as winner. This is a fabulous achievement for Aoife, who is just 12 years old, winning a competition for under 17s. She now goes forward to represent Mayo in the Connacht finals, which will be held in the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar on January 28th. Well done to Aoife, and as ever, her wonderful coach, Mrs Macken.

Following some outstanding performances during the local finals in Kiltimagh, our Ballad Group went on to represent the school at the Scór County Finals in Breaffy on March 26th. The group comprised of Katie D, Alex, Patrick, Lily & Seán. (Aoife was part of the group that qualified but missed the final). Under the outstanding tutelage of Bn Uí Mhaicín the children gave hugely polished performances of their two songs “An Cailín Álainn” & “Home Away From Home”.
